Alligators show up from time to time in my work… I’m from Florida after all. I’m not sure what it is about them… sort of fierce and prehistoric looking, and very recognizable. A is for Alice was my alligator from last year. She was a “pretty girl” with lots of charisma.

I’m working on my next mixed media alligator, and I had planned to give a “B” name… and work my way through the alphabet with animal art. Best laid plans… while choosing the bits and pieces that might make it into the piece, I came across some scrap felt that had been screen-printed with somewhat strange statements. As soon as I saw the piece that said, “Don’t be a crab” I knew I would use it. So meet Carl. The title of the newest soon to be alligator, is “Don’t Be a Crab Carl’. One thing leads to another, especially in mixed media. I’ve created some crabs to join Carl, and there are lots of little surprises in the background and foreground. Can’t wait to share the finished “Carl”, soon.
